In the Name of Cognizance
A smell of fear and discounted perfume permeated through the church – the scent inexorably linked with conformity and feigned interest. I had an irrepressible desire, as I sat in the pew, to deface the wood and tell everyone to go home. Organized religion is inherently corrupt; I encourage individualistic analysis, but attending mass is a far cry from attending a party of the sane.

inside i wanted to scream
acute observations
grime
confessions of traffic lights
hitting home too soon
spaghetti sauce splashing
wringing the pH balance
the foam layer of the kitchen sponge
sliced by the edge of knives
awaiting to be cleaned.
they are now afraid bombs
will be dropped into bins
in schools and children
will cry and scream and
run a muck and the entire
system of government
will collapse
because these children are turning
into adults not yet ready
screaming near the stairs
still young and green
disturbed plans of elevators
shy smiles and
awkward footsteps
to get away beyond
instead of mute.
I wish I could write something poetic, but all that comes out is a sub-par diatribe explaining how she sucks the life out of the air from every room she enters.
